SST PUREŽ takes NEXT step with Magnetix driver

April 16, 2002

MIAMI -- On Tuesday, Strategic Shaft Technologies, LC, took a major step toward its goal of making the SST PUREŽ shaft alignment process the industry standard for golf club assembly.

SST has entered a licensing agreement with NEXT Technology Golf that will allow NEXT to SST PURE the shaft of every new NEXT Magnetix 360 driver. NEXT is the first equipment manufacturer to license the SST PUREŽ technology for use across an entire line of clubs.

Since no shaft is perfectly round or straight, irregularities in each shaft affect performance and are the reason seemingly identical clubs perform differently. Despite modern manufacturing techniques, every golf shaft remains individually unique and cannot be fully analyzed until after the shaft has been manufactured. Using patented state-of-the art computer analysis equipment, SST identifies the most stable orientation of each and every shaft for optimum performance and impact repeatability. The process can be performed on any shaft, steel or graphite.

"Once you experience the feel and performance of a PUREd shaft, you'll never go back to randomly assembled clubs," SST chairman Dick Weiss said. "If you've ever tried a friend's club and then bought a seemingly identical one for yourself only to have it perform differently, the reason was the shaft. By finding the most stable plane of any shaft, SST PUREŽ takes that variable out of the equation. The NEXT Magnetix driver combined with the technology of an SST PUREd shaft is really an incredible golf club."

In research and development for more than four years, the 360 cubic centimeter Magnetix driver features a patented magnetic assembly inside the clubhead that, through the science of magnetostriction, supplies increased strength and reinforcement to the face of the golf club. According to NEXT, the hardened titanium face minimizes trampoline effect upon impact and transfers more energy into the golf ball, allowing it to come off hotter with less vertical and lateral spin at impact. The result is a ball that comes off hotter with less vertical and lateral spin for penetrating drives, longer roll and greater accuracy.

"We have spent exhaustive amounts of time and energy to perfect the technology behind the Magnetix driver," said NEXT Technology Golf Founder Joe Stafford. "This technology has never been utilized in the golf industry and our tests prove that this driver performs. We are confident that the Magnetix driver will go into a lot of golf bags come the second half of the PGA and Senior PGA Tour seasons."

The Magnetix will be offered with A-shafts (ladies and seniors), R-shafts (regular), S-shafts (stiff) and TourS-shafts (Tour stiff) in lofts of eight, nine and 10 degrees. The retail price is $399.

Overseeing the launch of the Magnetix Driver is NEXT Technology Golf President Nathaniel Crosby. The 1981 U.S. Amateur Champion, Crosby most recently served as executive vice president of Orlimar Golf where he was involved in the hugely successful launch of that company's line of fairway woods.

"It has been a long-time goal of mine to take a golf company from its inception and turn it into a serious player in the equipment industry," said Crosby. "With our innovative technology and partnership with SST, and with the strong team of investors behind NEXT Technology Golf, I think we have a chance to be the next big success story in golf."

NEXT Technology Golf introduced the Magnetix driver on April 16, 2002, on The Golf Channel with a 30-minute show hosted by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate.
