SST PURE® to bring Shaft Alignment Lab to Re/Max World Long Drive Championship Finals
October 7, 2003
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS — Finalists at next month’s 2003 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship already know how to hit their competition drivers long, but soon they will be hitting it PURE as well. The SST PURE® Shaft Alignment Lab will be on-site in Mesquite, Nev., offering its patented shaft-alignment process to golf’s biggest hitters — at no charge.
The SST PURE process locates the most stable plane of a golf shaft and properly orients it in the clubhead to minimize off-line bending and twisting. Especially for long drivers with swing speeds of 140-150+ mph, SST PUREd drivers will perform consistently and uniformly under the pressure of a world championship event.
“We are thrilled to offer such a top-shelf technical service as the SST PURE alignment process to our RE/MAX finalists,” says Art Sellinger, chief executive officer at Long Drivers of America (LDA), which conducts golf’s largest international grass roots event. “I am confident many RE/MAX competitors will take advantage of this exceptional technology, which has proven to be so influential in the complete scope of shaft fitting.”
The RE/MAX WLDC unfolds at the Palms Golf Club Driving Range in Mesquite on Oct. 14-18. Competition in eight divisions carries a $350,000 total purse and bragging rights for the open division champion as “golf's biggest hitter.”
“We have already PUREd clubs for more than 180 PGA Tour professionals," says SST PURE founder Dick Weiss. “We're looking forward to extending this technology to the exciting world of long drive."
Using proprietary computer software and sensitive data-acquisition sensors, the SST PURE shaft-alignment process analyzes the structural irregularities that exist to some degree in every golf shaft and locates the shaft’s most stable orientation. By assembling the club with the shaft in its PURE orientation, off-line bending and twisting of the shaft are minimized and impact repeatability on the center of the clubface by golfers improves up to 51 percent, according to SST PURE data. The process can be performed on existing clubs, new clubs or new shafts — steel or graphite — from most major manufacturers.
Headquartered in Miami, Strategic Shaft Technologies, LC, was founded by clubmaker Dick Weiss, who was the creator of the SST PURE® process. The patented SST PURE process of club assembly — deemed in compliance with USGA standards — locates each shaft’s irregularities and aligns the shaft to neutralize them, so that each club bends in the direction it should — straight down the target line.
Upon having his shafts SST PURE aligned, a player receives a personalized computer printout confirming the process and an SST PURE shaft label for every shaft that has been PUREd. The SST PURE process of golf shaft alignment is available at SST PURE licensees around the United States and internationally.
