SST PURE® Visits Champions Tour February 9, 2004 MIAMI — While three of the top five finishers at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am have benefited from shafts aligned by SST PURE technology, the SST PURE Tour Van was making its first-ever appearance on the Champion’s Tour in Key Biscayne, Fla. More than one dozen players embraced the SST PURE shaft-alignment process, including Dan Quigley who finished one stroke off first place. “Many of today’s senior players did not have the advantage of several professional clubmakers being present at Tour events, so they learned to adjust their own equipment,” says Jim Whelan, Strategic Shaft Technologies Tour Van operator and clubmaker. “When these pros were shown the SST PURE computer analysis of their shafts, it was like a light bulb going off. Most of them had believed it was the clubhead that had made the biggest difference while testing seemingly identical clubs that performed differently. However, they now know that it is actually the shaft’s alignment into the clubhead which is the main reason why similar clubs do not perform the same unless they are SST PURE-aligned and assembled.” The SST PURE mobile lab first debuted its new customized 24-foot equipment trailer on the PGA TOUR in 2002 and is fully equipped to handle the PUREing demands of the best players in the world. The SST PURE Alignment Lab will spend the next two weeks in Florida following the finest senior players in the world on their next two events, and then it will be on hand at the Ford Championship at Doral, Miami, on March 1-7; The Honda Classic, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on March 8-14; Bay Hill Invitational, Orlando, Fla., on March 15-21; The Players Championship, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., on March 22-28. The SST PURE shaft-alignment process analyzes the structural irregularities that exist to some degree in every golf shaft and locates the shaft’s most stable orientation through the application of proprietary computer software and sensitive data sensors. By assembling the club with the shaft in its PURE orientation, off-line bending and twisting of the shaft are minimized and impact repeatability on the center of the clubface by the golfer improves up to 51 percent. The process can be performed on existing clubs, new clubs or new shafts — steel or graphite — from most major manufacturers. Headquartered in Miami, Strategic Shaft Technologies, LC, was founded by clubmaker Dick Weiss, who was the creator of the SST PURE® process. The patented SST PURE process of club assembly — deemed in compliance with USGA standards — locates each shaft’s irregularities and aligns the shaft to neutralize them, so that each club bends in the direction it should — straight down the target line. Upon having his shafts SST PURE aligned, a player receives a personalized computer printout confirming the process and an SST PURE shaft label for every shaft that has been PUREd. The SST PURE process of golf shaft alignment is available at SST PURE licensees around the United States and internationally. SSTraight, DiSSTance, ConSSTant, HoneSSTy in clubmaking. You cannot be sure unless all of your shafts are SST PURE aligned and assembled.
